Enjoy the long weekend!

And congratulations to Emma, Maeve, Mia, and Sam on their winning poetry contest entries! I'm very impressed on how poised each of them were at the reading last night at Highland Park Library. They were calm, but I was a nervous wreck!

No Homework for Wednesday, April 12th

Last Friday, we went on a fantastic field trip to Underwriters Laboratories in Northbrook to learn how science is used to test everyday items to ensure they are safe. I hope your student shared some of their favorite moments!

Thank you to both Debbie and Gayle for helping out and taking some great pictures!

Homework for Friday, April 7th

1) Read for 30 minutes
2) Finish word poster and study for spelling test
3) Bring Chromebook charger to school

* Friday is our UL field trip! Please remember to bring a lunch/large snack. The bus will leave around 9:40am and return around 1:30pm

* PARCC testing begins next week. If you are observing Passover and prefer not to participate in testing during this time, students will be able to take their tests during the make-up sessions, which will be held during the week of April 24th.

* Starting Friday and lasting through PARCC testing, students will leave their Chromebooks at school to ensure they are charged and ready to go when testing begins. During the testing period, there will be no assigned homework aside from reading and getting a full night's rest.

* Today I am sending home two PARCC practice packets. THIS IS NOT ASSIGNED HOMEWORK. This is simply to give students a chance to view the format and get an idea of the types of questions they will be asked. We have been discussing test taking strategies in class this week, and working with the online practice modules to get acquainted with how the testing program works.

Homework for Thursday, April 6th

1) Read for 30 minutes
2) Study for spelling quiz on Friday (The four states and capitals of the Southwest). You can use your packet to study or use Spelling City

** Remember, we will away on our field trip during lunch on Friday, so please pack a lunch or large snack in a disposable bag so you don't get too hungry! (There are activities after lunch before we leave, so it's best not to have a reusable lunch bag so it doesn't have to be carried during that time.)

2) Work on your Oregon Trail writing project. We will start writing on Thursday, so start making final decisions on your character and their Oregon Trail experience.

1) Read for 30 minutes
2) Review your spelling words for the week (The Southwest States and Capitals)
3) Finish any Docs, Slides, Presentations regarding your Spring Break to share in class (optional)

* For Friday's Field Trip, all students should pack a lunch as we will be eating at the Underwriters Laboratory. If you ordered hot lunch, it will be saved for you, but we will probably not be back at school until 1:30pm, so it would still be smart to pack a lunch or large snack.
