Homework for Thursday September 3rd

1) Complete Current Event Assignment
2) Read and log
3) Practice on ALEKS for 5-10 minutes and show your parents!
4) Finish/Submit your "My Amazing Life" presentation

Parents,
1) Today we set up our Class Dojo accounts, and students have sheets in their home folder to help you sign up. Class Dojo is a behavior management site where students get points for positive behaviors (much like our Tiger Stripe system). Please let me know if you have any trouble signing up.

2) We are having an issue with water bottle run off or "sweating". If you have a coaster or small towel or bandana at home that can be brought to school, I would really appreciate it!

Homework for Wednesday September 2nd

1) You have an assignment on Google Classroom. Create a Google Slides presentation about yourself. Use at least 3 slides, make it fun, and show me who you are!

2) Read and log! Remember to record all information and to write a summary of at least 3 high quality sentences!

*** Parents, the main goal of tonight's tech homework is to 1) make sure we can access Google Classroom at home and 2) become familiar with using it. Including reading, tonight's homework should not exceed an hour unless the student is enjoying the process. Too early and way too hot for tears!

What a Great 1st Day!

Thanks to all of 4B for a great first day!

Please bring your Chromebook tomorrow, fully charged. If there is an issue, that's no problem, but I would like to get everything fixed and working as soon as possible.

An information sheet went home today in your student's blue home folder. However, the information is also posted below. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at bbrandstrader@nssd112.org.

---------------------------

Welcome to 4th grade!  I look forward to partnering with you in order to maximize your child’s academic, social, and personal growth.

Reading
  • Reading outside of school is very important! Your child is expected to read at home for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
  • Students will be expected to log their reading. I will discuss this in detail at Open House.

Math
  • Practice 10-15 minutes per day (3-4 days a week)  and memorize basic math facts of: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • A great resource for practice is my website, mrbrandstrader.com.  There are plenty of links that can be used to practice math facts in fun, engaging ways.

Organization:
  • Homework:  All homework assignments will be announced in class and posted on my blog, mrbrandstrader.com.
  • A Blue take-home folder will be brought home from school and returned to school daily.  This will be used for homework, finished assignments, and communication from school. This take-home folder should be emptied on a regular basis. Please help your child take responsibility for putting this in his/her backpack every night.

Homework:
In addition to nightly independent reading, homework should not exceed 40 minutes to complete.  However, there may occasionally be long-term projects that require a little more time and planning…… be on the lookout for these on the homework calendar! 4th grade homework expectations will be explained in greater detail at Open House.
However, I will always defer judgement on homework to parents. I understand that there are rough, stressful or chaotic nights, and these nights generally do not produce quality learning experiences. If there is ever an issue with homework, please have your student email me and we can make a plan to have the work made up at another time.

Behavior Expectations
Our fourth grade behavior plan is based on positive reinforcement.  There will be a variety of incentives that will encourage students to work together in different ways.

4-B Classroom Expectations -(Also, Indian Trail’s School-Wide Expectations for Behavior)
1.  Be safe.
2.  Be respectful to all class members, teachers, and visitors to our classroom.
3.  Be responsible for your actions, behavior, and work.

Recess/Lunch is every day from 11:50-12:40. Students need to be prepared to dress for a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.  Please inform your child if he/she will be receiving hot lunch at school.

Supplies
In addition to the required fourth grade supply list, your child will also need the following by Monday, August 31st:
  • A smock for art, labeled in permanent marker, with your child’s full name
  • Gym shoes need to be worn everyday for P.E. class, in order to participate. If you would like to send a pair of gym shoes to be kept at school, please make sure that your child’s first and last name is labeled on each shoe.
  • A pair of headphones/earbuds.

Snacks
  • Please send ONLY healthy snacks (fruit, fresh veggies, yogurt), in order to adhere to our district’s food policy.  Please visit the district website for more information. You will find the policy in the posted parent handbook.
  • In the warm months, it is essential to stay hydrated! Please send a water bottle (no juice or sport drinks) with your student.  Sport-tops are best and help to avoid spills!

Birthdays
  • All students will be recognized in class on his or her birthday.  If you wish to send in a small favor to share with the class, please remember that it must be a non-food item.  A few suggestions are pencils, erasers, or stickers.
  • Birthday favors can either be dropped off in the office by you or sent with your child in the morning.

If you have any comments, questions, or concerns prior to Open House, or at any point throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I can be reached by email (bbrandstrader@nssd112.org) , voicemail (224-765-3477), or by a note sent in with your child.
Thank you in advance for all of your support!
